This position is located in the VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network Office (VISN 22) in Long Beach, CA. The VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network Office (VISN 22) is seeking a highly experienced physician leader to serve as the Chief Medical Officer. VISN 22 provides healthcare services to nearly 514,740 Veterans through an integrated system of 8 hospitals, of which 7 are complexity level 1 facilities and (1) is a complexity level 3, 14 Multi-Specialty CBOCs, 40 Primary Care CBOCs, 13 Other Outpatient Services, and 2 Residential Care Sites. VISN 22 operates under a Service Line and Integrated Services collaborative organizational structure where Service Lines and Integrated Services use a formal system to disseminate exemplary practices, coordination care, conduct strategic planning and integrate the health care delivery system.
As the Chief Medical Officer you will:
* Serve as advisor for all clinical operations in the Desert Pacific Healthcare Network.
* Coordinate strategic planning efforts for health care delivery with effective business planning to assure maximum health care quality and effectiveness.
* Serve as professional liaison of the VISN to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Federal facilities, the community, affiliates, media, congressional offices, and constituent organizations fostering a culture of excellence.
* Ensure continuous improvement relative to the quality, value and access of health care services.
* Ensure accountability for meeting VISN performance goals and standards.
* Promote cooperation and compliance with Department regulations, Federal and State laws, medical staff bylaws, Joint Commission standards, etc., as applicable to the individual, profession or facility.
* Achieve corporate objectives in quality of services and programs throughout the VISN as evaluated by internal indicators, regulatory reviews and accreditation and patient satisfaction data.
Work Schedule: Full-time. Basic Requirements:
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- First-Year Residency (Internship): Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
Education: Board Certified in a specialty.
Preferred experience: At a minimum the applicant should possess experience supervising/directing a large program or facility with multidisciplinary teams providing patient care across a geographic area.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
